Damn skippy

We regard wealth as something to be properly used, rather than as something to boast about.  As for poverty, no one need be ashamed to admit it: the real shame is in not taking practical measures to escape from it.

59 times the pain

It's a Roxy Music kind of evening...  I think Bryan Ferry's cover of "Jealous Guy" is one of the best covers a cluesless kid wandering around the Farm thought.  Today I found a cool farmer's market (not the weekend version but a permanent one) where they even had goats and a couple of pigs.  None of the customers ventured outside but I've always liked farm animals.   Being there reminded me of my grandparents who had things like chikens, pigs, rabbits and even a couple of big turkeys.  I vaguely remember a horse but I was 2 or 3.  I can remember riding on that beast and holding its mane.

I have a peach cobbler baing in the oven and the only rationale for such a culinary treat was to use up the sourdough discard.

I really wish the election was over.  I'm so tired of the social media news cycle between these two fossils.  More annoying are the conspiracy theories.  Hell, even the fake moon landings and the Illuminati had a bit of History Channel vibe to it, but the ones in 2020 are lamer than lame.

I wonder if things are different in Canada or Demark.  (Too bad I'm not a grade school teacher, huh?)

There's no surfing in Cleveland

One of the definitions of pain is my habit of following the Cleveland Browns.  I haven't lived in Cleveland in ten years, but I have felt the frustration of the local team being chronically bad.  Since I now live in Tempe, Arizona, I think bad is a relative term.

I was hoping the Tribe could nail a wildcard spot but it wasn't meant to be.  Reducing payrolls is a sure fire path to mediocrity and the Indians are proving it.  Still, there were some bright spots and moments.

The back of my neck is sunburned from stopping at a farmer's market yesterday.  I felt bad for the dogs panting in the heat.  (Ok, so maybe it was only in the high 80s).  So much for the Phoenix monsoon.

Free coffee on a sucky Sunday

This is the second month of having Google Fi.  My monthly cell phone service bill used to be $50/month under T-Mobile, and under Google Fi, it went from $30 to $25.50.  Excellent.  Since the real cellular providers are either Sprint or T-Mobile, I effectively cut my monthly bill in half.  Most excellent.  It did require my getting a Nexus 5X because the Google Fi service only works with the 5X or 6.

It's rare that I see a reoccurring cost go down a little.  What can I get with $4.50?  The only thing that comes to mind is a coffee and a muffin.

Cuttle

While I was out walking the dog, I realized that it was Good Friday.  Cold and dreary, yes, and the classical music station was playing Handel's Sarabande arrangement for orchestra.  That has to be the best piece for this cold and dreary day, and quite appropriate for the religious set.  Naturally, all this dreary stuff leads to....the cuttlefish!

Curiously, I wonder how they'd fare in outer space.

Tout peut s’oublier

One of the things I like about Netflix is the joy of binge watching.  It makes everything au courant.  The choice in 2016 is Person of Interest.   Season One is great.  I've always had a weakness for bad-ass former operatives who get things done and live to star in another episode.  Harold Finch is also good if you need a bad-ass billionaire who doesn't mind walking among the 99%-ers.

And the music is good too.

The Docket

I wish I know people who also live in this apartment complex.  Sure, I've waved to a couple and even spoke some WORDS to a few, but no-one I could ask to catsit for me.  For years I never had to worry about this sort of thing because I didn't have any pets of my own.  Now I'm ward of two cats and one dog.  This week I have to clean the apartment, get some canned dog food, and pack for that road adventure.   Rocky the Wonder Beagle is navigating but los gatos will be here under the car or a professional catsitter.
